The reason you need special in home child care insurance is because standard home liability policies excludes liability coverage for family child care. Most standard home policies do not cover unique businesses run out of the home and addendums added to your home policy are inadequate for a child care business.
Policy Coverage:
- General Liability
- Accidental Medical Coverage
- Child Sexual Abuse Liability
- Bodily Injury and Property Damage resulting from your childcare operations.
- Allegations of Sexual Abuse involving children in your care up to a maximum of $100,000 per occurrence or $300,000 in aggregate.
- Personal injury offenses including libel, slander and alienation of affection of any child in your care.
- Accidents without regard to fault or liability, to children in your care, both on and off the premises.
- Medical payment coverage ($1000/$5000/$10,000) is automatically provided and is excess over any collectible insurance.
To Be Eligible For Coverage:
You must care for 1-18 children in your home. You must operate with the legal guidelines of your state. If a license is required by your state, you must have a license. For you to purchase this coverage, you cannot allow children in your care to utilize on-premises swimming facilities, though wading pools are acceptable. The pool must be fenced in on all four sides. While you can have a dog, the policy excludes coverage on breeds such as Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Bull Mastiffs or mixed breed dogs where the dominant breed is one of the just mentioned four, based upon physical characteristics. All other breeds can be covered but you must have a method for keeping them separated from the children.
