$30,000 gift from Valero helps to make new playground at Repauno Preschool and Day Care a reality
After a year of planning and building, the kids at the Repauno Preschool and Day Care have a new, safer playground. Funded by a $30,000 grant supplied by Valero, the playground’s new plastic equipment and mulch made from recycled tires fits new regulations for playground safety that will be going into effect in the coming years.
“In 2014 the old playground would be obsolete. We’re really fortunate that Valero donated this money,” said Cheri Yanzuk. Each year the Valero Corporation holds the Valero Texas Open golf tournament and any proceeds get split between all of the refineries to hand out to the charity of their choice.
The Paulsboro refinery chose the daycare center as its main recipient this year, allowing them to build the playground. Built forÊchildren between the ages of 3 and 12, it comes equipped with swings, which the old playground was lacking, slides, safe hanging bars and talk tubes.
As some of the child care center’s children played on the new structure Thursday evening, the Repauno crew held a dedication ceremony honoring Valero and presented Lisa Lindsey,Êa community representative for the company, with a scrapbook and picture thanking them for their donation.
“It’s great to see this come to fruition and see the kids on the playground,” said Lindsey. Repauno Preschool and Day Care Center still has one more playground to rebuild before 2014, the one reserved for toddlers and younger children, but they will await fundraising to begin that project.
“Being a nonprofit organization, we rely on a lot of grants and donations from the community, ” Yanzuk said. “Valero has been very, very good to us. ”
